Making resolutions at the beginning of the year isn't for everyone, but goal-setting and accountability are necessary keys to success for all of us. As you consider what health and fitness goals you would like to accomplish in 2014, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Be realistic. It is better to set small, attainable goals that you can surpass, than to overestimate what you can actually commit to doing.
- Be effective. Improvements can come quickly with discipline and hard work. Remember that the level of effort you give determines the outcome.
- Be specific. Make a detailed and comprehensive plan. For example, rather than simply deciding to lose 15 pounds, determine the exact days and times for your workouts.
- Be consistent. This one is so very important. The most realistic, effective, and specific plan won't help if it isn't followed. One tip I give my clients is to identify possible hindrances to their workouts (weather, work, etc.) and have a solution for each of them in advance.
