This month we'll talk about making a Nutrient Budget. A Nutrient Budget can outline all of the six main nutrients you need, or can be separated into a Fat Budget, or a Protein Budget, etc. Generally it is recommended that you eat about 50% carbohydrates, 25% protein and 25% fat. To design a Nutrient Budget based on these numbers you simply designate about half of your calories for carbohydrates and then one quarter each for proteins and fats. You can use this guideline to plan meals as well as track your nutrient intake throughout the day.
